Berlin was the first location that we had both been to before.  We were surprised by how much it had changed since our last respective visits - but we both enjoyed it thoroughly.  There is a lot less grunge to the city and more of the minimalist design aesthetic that's on trend than when we were last here - but you can find the raw grit if you know where to look.

For this AIRBORNE \\ music video postcard, Big Flip The Massive / aka Reece McNaughten had given us a bounty of keywords to work with:
"erratic/glitchy/grimey/dirty/chaotic/frantic" and we mainly filmed on location in abandoned buildings, an abandoned US spy base and an deserted swimming pool to try to capture those elements.  We filmed both during the day and the evening, and played with the speed of the clips to conjure an unsettling feeling in the viewer.

It was eerie and delightful to explore these once busily frequented areas that are now being taken over by greenery, dilapidation, aimless kids, graffiti and street artists.

We were lucky to be staying with a lovely Kiwi couple, Ant and Laura, who moved to Berlin earlier in the year.  We caught up with them each evening after their German classes and Ant's work at Papilles Cafe, and managed to get to an enormous flea market over a weekend.  We also met up for drinks and meals with friends Mark and Helen, both self-employed creatives working in product design - Mark with his bicycle accessories company Full Windsor (best website ever?) and Helen with her absolutely stunning Witch&Watchman creations.

Danke, Berlin.

FOR AIRBORNE \\ we had asked all of our artists to provide a key word and/or colours that represented their track for us to consider when filming.  Reece gave us plenty of keywords to choose from, so we threw caution to the wind and used all of them:
"erratic/ glitchy/ grimey/ dirty/ chaotic/ frantic"

Hold on to your head, grasp at your mind, and embark on this journey.

"I had one of my favourite seizures whilst watching this."
- Owen The Hawk Watts, Short Film Director + Generally Pleasant Man.
